Halfway Around the World

There has been a lot of traffic between the US and Liberia this past year! Several friends of OBOH were blessed to make the trek across the ocean for a myriad of different reasons--and the stories coming back are filled with great memories and moments of connection. A few highlights...

Aaron, Nicole, and Isaac Baart spent 16 days in Liberia from mid-November until the first week in December 2013. Although the purpose of their trip was adoption, they enjoyed lots of great conversations and planning meetings with the leadership of AVDC.

Aaron Baart and Dan De Groot traveled to Liberia on Christmas Eve and stayed for 16 days for a pastors’ conference and church revival. All of the AVDC congregations gathered at Dumbar Farm for a time of fellowship, worship, and vision-casting. Eighteen new believers were baptized in the ocean.

An AMOR (mission) team from Dordt College consisting of eight students and three adult leaders (Brian and Deanne Hoekstra, and Ron Vos) spent a week in Liberia in January of 2014 teaching classes, building a swing set, and studying the new farm at Harbel.

Tim Bajema and Ryan De Kruyf traveled to Liberia in February to assist in the construction of the new high school and help set up a computer lab at Dumbar Farm. Many of our sponsor families were blessed to receive a FaceTime call from their sponsor child as the team was also able to wire the campus for internet.
